Evaluation of the restoration scheme of the tailings dam in Xintian, Chenzhou, Hunan Province

Project background
Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, the mother river, the Xiangjiang River upstream, located 18 km and Xintian hill mining area is located in the south-west of Chenzhou City, covering an area of about 17 square kilometers is one of the world’s largest tungsten ore district. As of 2005, there are 12 mines in Xintian, 22 tailings, 15 ore processing plants and 23 operations in the mineral company, is facing a lot of problems in the mining area. Xintian tungsten mining area and its disabled tailings reservoir (TSFs) have a huge potential for water quality, human health and safety, as well as agricultural production around and downstream.
As a part of the Xiangjiang river pollution control project of the State Council, in 2011, the China Hydropower Consulting Group (HCZEC) and the Australian company cooperation, to provide environmental consulting services for the construction of Xintian Chenzhou Ling mining area project (Xintian ridge project).
The main work of Australia
This project mainly provides a preliminary assessment of six of the tailings reservoir which has been disabled to provide geotechnical engineering technology and geochemical risk and rehabilitation program. Main contents include:
A preliminary assessment of the stability of geotechnical engineering;
– a review of the existing data, the establishment of a preliminary tailings dam risk assessment, and carry out field visits, including field survey of mining area, and to the field data interpretation;
A preliminary assessment of the chemical stability of the earth;.
– water quality guidelines for the review, the mining area of the on-the-spot investigation, water and tailings samples were collected and analyzed, and of laboratory and field collected data explain.
The identification of possible repair plan;.
The identification of further data, to assist in the selection of the repair scheme in the corresponding field;
Six suggestions for the restoration of tailings are put forward.
