Our Associates
In addition to our wide range of internal expertise, Earth Systems has developed a network of Associates that we can draw upon, as required. Our Associates are independent specialist consultants that together cover a wide range of specialist disciplines (e.g. surface and groundwater management; hydrological modelling; air quality and noise management; archaeology and physical cultural resources).

Mr Nigel Murphy
Senior Principal Environmental Scientist/ Executive Director
Nigel Murphy is a Director of Earth Systems. He has more than 20 years of experience as an environmental and earth scientist. In addition to specialist technical skills in environmental science, Mr Murphy has extensive experience in interdisciplinary environmental assessments and project management for private sector, government, aid and development projects.
Dr Jeff Taylor
Senior Principal Environmental Geochemist/ Executive Director
Dr. Taylor is one of the founding Directors of Earth Systems.He has more than 25 years experience as an environmental and earth scientist and has managed and directed a broad variety of multi-disciplinary environmental projects, both in Australia and overseas. He has specialist knowledge in the field of water quality, environmental geochemistry, AMD Management and contaminated site remediation.
Dr John Waters
Principal Environmental Chemist
Dr. Waters holds the position of Principal Environmental Chemist with Earth Systems. John has more than 25 years professional experience working predominantly in research in the exploration and mining sectors in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. John provides Earth Systems with specialist expertise in acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD) management (mining and acid sulphate soils), ground and surface water chemistry, water treatment and environmental geochemistry.
Ms Sophie Pape
Principal Environmental Engineer
Sophie Pape holds the position of Principal Environmental Engineer with Earth Systems. In this position she has dealt with water and waste management, environmental management plans, impact assessments and site rehabilitation planning. Sophie has experience working with government, private industry and the development sector.
Ms Kate Wallace
Principal Environmental Scientist
Kate Wallace is a Principal Environmental Scientist with Earth Systems. Kate has extensive management and technical experience in interdisciplinary environmental assessments (including EIA, SIA and HIA) for private sector and development bank clients. Her impact assessment experience ranges from complex large infrastructure developments to linear projects. Kate also has experience with resettlement and livelihood restoration planning, including gender development and indigenous peoples development planning. She has also developed and implemented capacity building programs for government and private sector environment departments.
Dr John Sanderson
Principal Environmental Engineer
John Sanderson holds the position of Principal Environmental Engineer with Earth Systems. In this role, John conducts greenhouse gas and energy audits to comply with the relevant regulations and standards, and provides specialist technical and engineering consulting on biomass and bioenergy technologies and projects, including the emerging field of biochar.
Dr Adrian Morphett
Principal Environmental Engineer
Adrian Morphett holds the position of Principal Environmental Engineer with Earth Systems.In this role, Adrian conducts greenhouse gas and energy audits to comply with the relevant regulations and standards, and provides specialist technical and engineering consulting on biomass and bioenergy technologies, and industrial and commercial building energy efficiency projects.
Mr Julian Hatherall
Principal Hydrogeologist
Julian Hatherall is a Principal Hydrogeologist with Earth Systems. He is a Chartered Geologist and has over 14 years’ experience in groundwater and hydrogeological investigations. Over this time he has developed significant experience of evaluating impacts on the water environment resulting from abstraction, waste facilities and land contamination, the extractive industry and construction projects as well as providing specialist input to Environmental Impact Assessments. More recently his interest has broadened to include the field of ground source energy, groundwater and the area of groundwater flooding.
