Summary

Kate Wallace has been working internationally in the field of environmental science and management for 8 years. She is now a Principal Environmental Scientist with Earth Systems. She has completed a Masters degree in Environmental Management and a Bachelors degree in Environment and Health.

Kate has extensive management and technical experience in interdisciplinary environmental assessments (including EIA, SIA and HIA) for private sector and development bank clients. Her impact assessment experience ranges from complex large infrastructure developments to linear projects. Kate also has experience with resettlement and livelihood restoration planning, including gender development and indigenous peoples development planning. She has also developed and implemented capacity building programs for government and private sector environment departments.

  • Project Manager and specialist consultant for Nam Ou Cascade Hydropower Project EIA and SIA, a proposed seven dam cascade on a major tributary of the Mekong.
  • Peer review and specialist input for the Grande Cote Mineral Sands Project Community Health, Nutrition and Safety Management Action Plan.
  • Project Director and specialist consultant for the Gender and Disaster Risk Management Assessment – East Asia Pacific (World Bank).
  • Environmental and Social Coordinator for Ban Sok – Pleiku Power Transmission Line Detailed Feasibility Study IEE, LARAP and environmental and social due diligence review of associated projects (ADB).
  • Specialist consultant for the Ban Houayxai Gold Project EIA providing input into SIA and health studies as well as general review of EIA documents.
  • Project Manager and specialist consultant for the Thakho Hydropower Project EIA.
  • Project Manager and Environmental Specialist for IEE and RAP for Transmission Line Interconnection Project (Pakbo-Saravan) (JICA).
  • Specialist consultant for the Puthep Copper Project EIA providing technical input into EIA report and review of EIA documents.
  • Project Manager and specialist consultant for the Transport of Copper-Gold Concentrate – Phu Kham EIA Addendum undertaking field assessment and preparing the addendum report.
  • Project Manager and specialist consultant for the Gender and Social Inclusion in the Mining Industry project contributing to the development of a strategy for gender and socially inclusive development in the mining sector in Lao PDR (World Bank).
  • Specialist consultant for the Social Impacts and Social Sustainability in Mining and Hydropower Development (input into the Lao PDR Country Economic Memorandum, World Bank).
  • Project Manager and specialist consultant for the SLACO Bauxite Project EIA.
  • Project Manager and Senior Environmental Advisor for the Technical Assistance Program to the Environmental Management Unit (Government of Lao PDR) for the Nam Thuen 2 Hydropower Project.
