CLOSURE
AND REHABILITATION
Earth Systems has expertise in closure and rehabilitation planning
for resource development projects, from the preparation of conceptual
closure and rehabilitation plans at the project feasibility/early
operations phase, to the preparation of final closure plans towards

Services Provided:
Identifying
rehabilitation issues, options and constraints, (e.g. by assessing
land capability; identifying biodiversity issues; designing revegetation
trials; investigating surface water and groundwater issues; assessing
cultural, archaeological or heritage issues; and advising on, or conducting,
community consultation).
Developing
integrated rehabilitation and closure strategies that allow life-of-project
closure planning that is responsive to project planning decisions,
changing regulatory frameworks, and evolving corporate and stakeholder
expectations.
Designing
and managing targeted research programs to define closure issues and
refine closure options.
Problem
solving in areas such as decommissioning of pits, tailing storage
facilities, other water bodies, waste dumps, and site facilities and
infrastructure.
Assessing
risks and liability associated with rehabilitation and closure.
Preparing
rehabilitation plans, conceptual closure plans, interim closure plans
and final closure plans to meet site, corporate, government, community
or financier requirements.
Designing
and/or conducting closure and post-closure monitoring programs.
Experience:
Preparing
rehabilitation and closure plans for mining and petroleum projects
in arid, semi-arid and tropical climates in Australia, Asia, the Pacific
and Africa.
Familiarity
with current best practice closure planning, including preparing plans
conforming with the closure planning guidelines of the International
Finance Corporation/World Bank, Rio Tinto, and the Australian and
New Zealand Minerals and Energy Council & Minerals Council of
Australia.
