HALT
System
Key benefits
Efficiently
grinds low-cost limestone aggregate into slurry allowing rapid dissolution.
Can replace
anoxic limestone drains.
Long term
treatment solutions using limestone = long term cost and resource
savings.
General Description
The HALT Water Treatment System is a limestone aggregate(e.g.<40mm)
grinding system that is currently undergoing commercialisation.
Field trials consistently produced a fine grained (<500 micron)
limestone slurry which is an effective means for treating acid water.
This system has a small site footprint and low physical impact when
deployed. It requires minimal existing infrastructure and can be
readily powered by water turbine.
This semi-passive water powered system has the potential to replace
the often problematic anoxic limestone drains as a long term solution
to many acid drainage problems. The HALT Water Treatment System
has the advantage of utilising the more ecologically benign effects
of limestone as a treatment reagent in environmentally sensitive
areas. Using limestone aggregate also significantly reduces the
reagent costs of water treatment where long term treatment is required.
