Summary

Mr Nigel Murphy is a Director of Earth Systems.  He has more than 20 years of experience as an environmental and earth scientist.  In addition to specialist technical skills in environmental science, Mr Murphy has extensive experience in interdisciplinary environmental assessments and project management for private sector, government, aid and development projects.

Environmental project management; environmental management and impact assessment of natural resource development; Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) / Renewable Energy project design and planning; mine rehabilitation, environmental monitoring; environmental data management; water quality; water resource and catchment management.

 

Representative Experience

Some examples of Mr. Murphy’s recent roles and projects include:

  • Environmental assessments, baseline studies and environmental monitoring and management assignments for numerous resource and infrastructure projects in Australia and Asia-Pacific region, including PNG, Laos, Indonesia, Argentina.
  • Project Director for a Carbon Credit Opportunity Assessment and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Scoping Study in the Oil and Gas sector in PNG.
  • Project Director for the Xeset 2 Hydropower CDM project in Lao PDR.
  • Project Director and specialist consultant for the Nam Theun 2 hydroelectric project (Lao PDR) baseline study and Environmental Management Unit (EMU).
  • Benchmarking study and environmental data review of all managed sites for an international resources and energy provider.
  • Specialist consultant and Project Director for the preparation of the Sepon Gold Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), Xeset 2 ESIA and Phu Kham Copper-Gold ESIA in Lao PDR.
  • Project Director and specialist consultant for a United Nations GEF facility funded project preparing environmental datasets for eastern China, eastern Mongolia and Siberia as part of the TumenNET Strategic Action Program.
  • Project Director and specialist consultant for the preparation of The Australian Water Map, The Environment Map of Australia and The Water Map of Melbourne.
  • Project Director and specialist consultant for Environmental and Social Capacity Building for the Sepon Gold Mine. The World Bank funded this project.
  • Key external consultant in the development, review and revision of environmental guidelines and codes of practice for a number of resource sector clients.
